This resource was developed primarily for an audience of years 9 and 10. However, a great deal of the material will also be useful for teachers and students of biological sciences in years 11 and 12.
While at first glance Biotechnology Online may seem most relevant to the Science curriculum, its use encourages cross-curricular cooperation. For example:
material dealing with the use of gene technology could be useful for studies of farming practices in Australia - in Agriculture and Horticulture, or in Studies of Society and the Environment; and
English classes working on analysis or presentation of arguments could find useful factual background here, as well as several appropriate class activities.
There are many other biotechnology education sites and some of them are linked to this one, but few are aimed at the year 9/10 audience and even fewer have a specifically Australian context.
Topics within this resource are linked to the science outcomes of all States and Territories. Guides to these links can be reached by selecting Curriculum in the top navigational menu of this resource.
