The Biotechnology Online Secondary School Resource is produced and maintained by the Australian Government agency Biotechnology Australia. It provides balanced and factual information about biotechnology and has been designed to fit with Australian State and Territory Science curriculum statements. There is potential for cross-over into Studies of Society and the Environment, to allow for broader discussion of the issues.
This resource aims to address the need for Australian secondary schools to have access to up-to-date information about biotechnology. It supplements other educational resources by providing informational text, case studies, online and off-line activities for students, and support notes for teachers.
Biotechnology Online can help teachers and students to explore and understand the differing points of view on current practices and the ethical and moral questions that form a part of the present debate on biotechnology.
